VIRGINIA STATE UNIVERSITY OFFICE OF COMMUNICATIONS 2024 POINTS OF PRIDE CRISIS COMMUNICATIONS The Office of Communications and University Relations: • Effectively managed media following the April 10, 2024, campus shooting, ensuring accurate and timely information while maintaining the University's reputation. We planned and executed a press conference, campus statement, media management, and reputation. We further strategized to ensure the story's media life was successfully shortened. • Effectively managed media following the August 14, 2024, campus shooting, ensuring accurate and timely information while maintaining the University's reputation. We planned and executed a press conference, campus statement, media management, and reputation. We further strategized to ensure the story's media life was successfully shortened. • Successfully managed all communications related to the untimely death of VSU Associate Vice President of Athletics, including, but not limited to, crafting a statement from the President, coordinating on-campus communication, managing all media requests, and providing all graphics, photos, ads, videos, etc., requests for a multitude of tributes. • Crafted swift, strategic responses to negative news coverage, including addressing concerns raised in the JLARC report on viability risk. • Conducted comprehensive media training for faculty, staff, and student leadership, preparing them to effectively represent VSU in interviews and discussions. • Managed the media/communications inquiries surrounding the cancellation of the Presidential Debate at VSU. Successfully pursuing Strategic Plan Priority 4: Define the VSU Brand and Tell Our Story. Our goal is to effectively demonstrate and communicate the value of Virginia State University.
