This Impact Report, formerly known as the 
Annual and Endowment Report, highlights the 
results, achievements, and financial impact of 
Virginia State University for fiscal years 2023–
2024 and 2024–2025. It goes beyond numbers, 
showcasing the real-world impact of our pro-
grams and initiatives through both data and 
stories of transformation.
These outcomes are rooted in a legacy that spans 
more than 140 years. The story of Virginia State 
University began in 1882 as the nation’s first 
state-supported HBCU to offer both a college 
program and a normal program. What started as 
a student body of just 126 students has grown 
into a diverse student population of over 5,000.
At Virginia State University, we are committed 
to meeting the educational needs of students 
and graduating lifelong learners who are well-
equipped to serve their communities as informed 
citizens, globally competitive leaders, and highly 
effective, ethical professionals.
Additionally, we prioritize our students’ personal 
and professional growth, guiding them through 
graduation and beyond, thereby shaping the 
outlook of families for generations to come. 
We achieve this through a world-class faculty, 
staff, and administration, cultivating a holistic 
environment, fostering personal connections, and
