Dr. Valerie K. Brown has been a proud Trojan since graduating from Virginia State
University in 1978. She recently took her commitment to new heights by donating
$100,000 to her alma mater.
Appointed to the VSU Board of Visitors in 2018 and named Rector in 2022, Dr. Brown has
played a key role in shaping the University’s future. She presented her gift at the ribbon-
cutting ceremony for the Alfred W. Harris Academic Commons in June 2025.
“I am very proud to leave this gift at the place where I began my journey to Greater,”
said Dr. Brown. “Serving on the Board of my alma mater has been an incredible honor.
VSU gave me so many opportunities, and now I’m blessed to give back and help create
similar opportunities for others. I love Virginia State University, and it will always hold a
special place in my heart.”
Virginia State University is beyond grateful for Dr. Brown’s impactful gift, visionary
leadership, and lasting commitment to the University’s mission.
